The Bena Country Store regularly hosts original music from folk-Americana-bluegrass singer-songwriters. It’s always a good time for the whole family. Shows feature two 45-minute sets, beginning at 8 p.m. For ticket information, keep scrolling!
Our Saturday, May 26 show features the fast-emerging Americana group The Steel Wheels. The quartet from Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley features lead singer-songwriter Trent Wagler, multi-instrumentalist Jay Lap, upright bassist Brian Dickel and fiddler Eric Brubaker.
The Steel Wheels are truly an Americana band, rooted in musical styles that explore the territories between blues and bluegrass, old-time sing-alongs and foot-stompin’ fiddle tunes. They are subtle innovators who respect the past but whistle their own tunes, layering in rich textures and decidedly modern energy to forge a new sound.
“Imagine a blend of the passion of the Avett Brothers, the instrumentals of Old Crow Medicine Show, and then sprinkle in the backwoods feel of The Legendary Shack Shakers. In truth, attempting to compare [The Steel Wheels] to anyone is an injustice, since after one listen you can hear that they stand very well on their own perch.” - John Walker, Americana Roots
All shows are on Saturdays. Unless otherwise noted, all shows start at 8 p.m. – two 45-minute sets with an intermission.

Just wanted to test out my new Web site toy! Let us know what you think of our spring lineup – and who you’d like to see come fall 2011. We’re glad to report the music series is building with each show, and we continue to be amazed at the talents who are willing to play at our humble venue. Hope you can check out a show soon.
Hello,
I perform in an mountain music duo, the Whitetop Mountaineers. We play traditional mountain music, singing, and dance. Here is a link to our website: http://www.whitetopmountaineers.com. We were interested in performing at eh Bena County Music Series.
I also perform with an old time family band, The Whitetop Mountain Band that would be interested as well. http://www.whitetopmountainband.com
Thanks,
Martha Spencer
We visited for the first time last night and loved everything about the experience. The venue, the people, most of all the MSG Acoustic Blues….
Let me say we have heard the Whitetop Mountain Band and they are very good. Would make a nice fit for Bena.
